Malaysian Opposition Minister Charged Over 1MDB Leak

April 8, 2016 – Malaysian opposition lawmaker Rafizi Ramli was slapped with two charges under the Official Secrets Act 1972 today after leaking classified information about the embattled state fund 1MDB.

He was arrested outside the parliament gates on Tuesday for releasing information from the classified Auditor-General’s report on state-owned development company 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The fund has been at the centre of controversy in Malaysia over its massive debt pile and allegations of financial mismanagement by its CEOs as well as advisory board, headed by Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Rafizi is the vice president of opposition Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
